Welcome to the Blues Piano Course,

This is a temporary home for it, enjoy it for now :-] ,,, it will be in a 4 week, 4 part course. See below for what is currently available.

If you're using an apple computer, you may want to switch to a different browser so you can see the content.

Also, if the videos don't load up immediately, give it 5 minutes to load up. There's a tonne of video content on this page, and could take a while to load.

Thanks, Tom.

Practice day 4]

Go Over what you did in practice day 1 and practice days 2 and 3. I think you need to take this time just to get secure in the technique. Remember, it's not about the tempo. Play it fast, it's a boogie, play it slow it's blues, play it medium tempo, it still sounds good. Just don't neglect practice :-]

BONUS TO LEVEL ONE

Want an extra option for your RIGHT HAND? No problem.

It's optional though, and if it's too difficult right now, just skip it and come back to it another time :-]

LEVEL 2

First thing First

Important
Before watching the video, please go to this page and read up  on / familiarize yourself with the Blues Scale...

Have you read the article before proceeding?

Lesson 2 Video

-----------------------------
Note from video - how to practice the riff

RIGHT HAND:   C,  Bb,  G  Gb  F   Eb  C    C    Eb
LEFT HAND:     #     ~    #        ~         #    ~     #   ~

Think of the above like Karaoke ... in the case of the C position, the # will be playing the left hand at C+G, and the ~ is C+A. It helps some people to visualize it like this. Some people can just naturally get it by ear. Others need a combination. Just figure out which one you are :-]

-------------------------------

Alternative Turnaround/Ending
--------------------------------

The Part where it goes to G then to F, some people find it a little difficult, this should help. It also sounds great.

alternative ending of level 2
this may be easier to play, and it also sounds GREAT.

Lesson 2 bonus material [Blues Scale Lesson in more depth]

LISTEN, don't be trying to master anything in this video, some of it is too advanced for you right now, but it gives you some ideas of exercises to do going forward, and tells you a bit more about the scale :-]

I repeat, don't expect to play everything in this vid.

Enjoy though #Winks#

Lesson 3 Rhythmic Chordal Stabs

Here's the THIRD level in this beginner blues course. The inspiration is taken from the kind of thing you may have heard in a bar in USA in the 1930's, and you can find it in Boogie Woogie Stomp by Albert Ammons.

LESSON 3 MP4
rhythmic chordal stabs

The Thing that's hugely important here is that you practice it SLOWLY. The better you can play it slowly, the better you can play it fast. [How's that for an Aphorism]?

PART 4

ENDING...

Unfortunately, there are no videos for this part, but if you listen again to the demonstration of how to play this song in the first video, you'll hear I played a really cool ending.

here's how to do it.

Both hands do this

C , E , F, F# , G

THEN

Right  G# +   C  +  D#  (play together)
Left    G# note

THEN END ON

Right D + F# +A
left   C +   Bb

And   ....   that's it!!!!!!
